Art Nouveau Lampshade and Antique Lamp (“Eileen” Shade)
An Art Nouveau shade of rare charm, executed in Burnout Velvet in harmonious tones of orchid and citron, with panels of fine French Chantilly Lace and delicately chosen ornamental trims, producing a rich and artistic lighting effect.
This shade is one we call “Eileen,” and I must admit we had a little fun in naming it.
Part of the shade is formed in a beautiful Burnout Silk Velvet in shades of light orchid and citron green. Two panels are executed in fine French Chantilly Lace in soft green tones, echoing the citron and green shades found in the velvet. The panel beside the lace is a smooth and luminous light orchid Charmeuse Silk. Adjacent to that panel is a delicate lace overlay with small three-dimensional flowers resting over the same light orchid Charmeuse beneath.
The trims vary throughout the shade, with three distinct trims separating the panels. One trim features delicate flowers in orchid tones, each accented with a sequin and a small bead at the center. Another trim has a vintage character, with flowers in subdued shades of green combined with metallic thread, beautifully complementing both the lace panel and the Burnout Velvet. On the end panel the trim is a heavier decorative braid that has been custom hand-dyed to perfectly match the colors found in the fabrics.
The lower edge is finished with a double tier of crystal beaded drops, the longer fringe in faceted green crystals and the upper tier in plum and green tones, echoing the colors of the shade above.
The shade is fully lined with silk and carefully mid-lined, allowing it to glow beautifully when illuminated.
A matching handmade tassel accompanies the lamp. It is created from the same Burnout Velvet used in the shade, accented with the floral and beaded trim and finished with silky custom-dyed fringe measuring approximately seven inches in length.
The lamp selected for this shade complements its Art Nouveau character. The brass bridge arm features an oval medallion with the image of a woman surrounded by delicate ornamentation. The rod is a twisted and embellished brass design with a lovely ornamental centerpiece. The base is heavy brass with decorative detailing that echoes the elegance and flowing character of the shade above. This antique bridge lamp is a superior quality and over 100 years old.
Because the fabrics and trims used here are limited and no longer available, this shade remains a truly one-of-a-kind piece, carefully created and not to be repeated.
Altogether forming a most pleasing and distinctive example of Art Nouveau decorative lighting, executed with careful attention to every detail.
Size: The antique bridge lamp is 59 inches tall. The lampshade is 16 inches tall, including the beaded fringe. It is 11 inches from front to back and. 10 inches
