I find inspiration for lampshades from various places like nature, architecture, and art. One of my favorite artists is Alphonse Mucha. He  was a Czech painter, illustrator, and graphic artist living in Paris during the Art Nouveau period.  He is best known for his distinctly stylized and decorative theatrical posters. His artwork is an array of colors and designs!

With  these wonderful art pieces in mind, I decided to design this lampshade. For this piece I chose our “ Gothic with Leaf” frame. The beautiful burnout silk velvet I chose for this project has art nouveau designs in  blue, mauve, gold, black, and green. The silk midlining is an ombré dyed silk that fades from one color to another underneath the outer fabric.

A soft green ribbon with metallic gold edging was used around the outside arched panels. A trim that reminds me of stars embellishes the leaf panel. I used a metallic with blue ribbon trim around the front panel and overtop of the 6” beaded fringe.

This is definitely a one of a kind shade! It cannot be made as is again.

Size: 18” x 12” at bottom  x 19 tall including beaded fringe
