There is a quiet charm in Hattie, a piece that feels as though it has been lifted from a dressing table of another era—where hats were adorned with care, and every detail carried a sense of occasion.
The upper form is shaped in burnout silk velvet, its soft interplay of beige and brown revealing a subtle leafy pattern over a warm midlining. When illuminated, the fabric takes on a gentle luminosity, as though light itself has been woven into its design.
Below, the silhouette turns inward to a cuff-like brim, executed in a richly textured vintage fabric embossed with rose motifs. This lower band grounds the piece, offering contrast both in texture and depth, while echoing the romantic language of the upper panels.
Between each section, slender bands of silk charmeuse define the structure with quiet precision. A band of antique velvet encircles the form, drawing the eye and lending a sense of continuity—an architectural line that unites the composition.
At its side, the narrative becomes more personal. A hand-formed silk velvet rosette, deep in tone, is centered with an antique jeweled pin, its softened sparkle suggesting a history all its own. From this focal point, a single ostrich feather extends outward—light, expressive, and unmistakably reminiscent of the adorned hats of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Fully lined in silk charmeuse, Hattie emits a warm, intimate glow. Yet beyond its function, it exists as a small sculptural work—an homage to femininity, to ornament, and to the enduring beauty of handcrafted design.
