A One-of-a-Kind Work in Silk, Velvet, and Light
There are pieces that illuminate a room—and those that transform it. The Empress belongs to the latter.
Composed in deep, resonant tones of red and gold, this shade is an interplay of texture, light, and ornament. Panels of rich silk velvet form its outer structure, their depth softened and brought to life by the glow beneath. At the forefront, pleated silk charmeuse rises in quiet contrast, catching and releasing the light with a gentle fluidity.
Between these elements, delicate net panels bloom with finely stitched flowers, each one traced in metallic thread and edged in subtle shimmer. They appear almost suspended, as though gathered from a fragment of antique textile and reimagined here.
At the heart of the composition, a narrow panel of silk becomes the setting for an intricate appliqué—minute beadwork and stitching surrounding a single crystal-cut glass jewel. It rests there like a point of light held in place, anchoring the entire design.
The trims, in deep red and gold metallics, move with intention across the surface, framing each panel and guiding the eye. Below, a double fall of beaded fringe creates motion and rhythm: a softer inner layer of warm golds and reds, and beyond it, a more pronounced outer layer where larger beads and metallic elements catch the light with quiet brilliance.
Fully lined in silk charmeuse, the shade casts a warm, enveloping glow—one that enhances every material it touches.
Paired with an antique brass bridge lamp of exceptional character, the composition is completed in form and balance. The lamp’s sculptural arm echoes the movement of the shade, while its engraved rod, decorative center, and octagonal base lend a sense of structure and permanence. Newly wired, it remains both functional and enduring.
A matching tassel, designed to attach to the lamp, provides a final note—an understated gesture that completes the piece.
The Empress is a singular creation. It cannot be duplicated.
It stands not merely as a lamp, but as an object of atmosphere, memory, and quiet drama.
