There is something especially rewarding about gathering vintage trims, ribbons, lace, and fabric from another era and transforming them into a piece that genuinely looks and feels as though it could have come from the early part of the 20th century. That sense of authenticity is very much present in this bed lamp shade.
The main fabric is a silk velvet with beautiful variegation in tones of deep rose and rusty rose, giving the shade warmth and depth even before it is illuminated. The center panel, the upper middle panel, and two of the lower side panels are overlaid with a vintage lace piece dating to the 1920s, adding delicacy and period character to the design.
The trim work is composed of antique metallic and metallic braid trims, chosen to enhance the soft aged quality of the fabrics and lace. Centered on the shade is an antique metallic basket appliqué adorned with tiny antique ribbon roses, creating a focal point that feels both romantic and unmistakably vintage.
Fully lined in silk charmeuse, the shade gives off a warm, gentle glow when lighted. Altogether, the combination of antique elements, rich velvet, and carefully chosen embellishments creates a piece with the unmistakable spirit and elegance of an early twentieth-century decorative lamp shade.
